Pistons welcome Hawks to the Motor City

Basketball Betting Lines

02/11/2009 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Fresh off a devastating loss, the Detroit Pistons will aim for a quick turnaround when the slumping club hosts the Atlanta Hawks tonight at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

Detroit blew a 15-point fourth-quarter lead in last night's 107-102 defeat to rival Chicago at the United Center. The Bulls went ahead to stay on Ben Gordon's four-point play with just 16.7 seconds left to play.

Playing without superstar Allen Iverson, the Pistons failed to make a field goal in the final 3 1/2 minutes and suffered their second straight loss. The club is just 5-11 since January 10.

Iverson sat out Tuesday's tilt with flu-like symptoms, and it's unclear as to whether the perennial All-Star will be able to return for tonight's game.

Richard Hamilton poured in 30 points for Detroit in last night's setback, while Rasheed Wallace amassed 20 points and 10 rebounds.

The Pistons will try to get back on track against an Atlanta team that hasn't posted a victory in any of its last seven visits to the Motor City. The Hawks last defeated Detroit at the Palace of Auburn Hills on December 10, 2004.

Atlanta has been playing well as of late, however, and delivered its third win in its last four game with last night's 111-90 home triumph over lowly Washington. Joe Johnson led the way with a 22-point, eight-assist, six-rebound effort.

Flip Murray finished with 16 points and Zaza Pachulia had 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Hawks, while Mike Bibby contributed 12 points and six assists in his return to the Atlanta lineup. The veteran guard had missed Saturday's loss to the Los Angeles Clippers with a sprained left foot.

Tonight's contest begins a six-game road trip for Atlanta, with the final five matchups coming after the All-Star break. The Hawks are just 11-15 as the visitor this season but have won their last two away from home.

The Hawks did hand Detroit an 85-78 loss in Atlanta on December 21. The Pistons had won eight of the nine most recent meetings between the teams prior to that game.

MySportsbook.com Posts Heisman Trophy Odds

With 3,919 passing yards, 32 touchdowns and a mere seven interceptions last season, combined with a powerful South Bend Heisman legacy, odds makers at MySportsbook.com have given Notre Dame senior quarterback Brady Quinn the best Heisman Trophy odds at 5-2.

Quinn isn’t the only big man on campus this season.  Oklahoma junior running back and 2004 Heisman runner-up Adrian Peterson, listed at 7-2, rushed for a combined 3,033 yards in his first two years as a college player and will give Quinn a run for his money.

This online sportsbook has also listed Troy Smith, Ohio State senior quarterback, as another strong favorite to win the 72nd Heisman Trophy.  A 7-1 bet, Smith threw for 2,282 yards last season and also led the Buckeyes to a convincing 34-20 victory over Quinn and the Fighting Irish in last season’s Fiesta Bowl.

March Madness odds and printable March Madness brackets

With the field of 64/65 set, MySportsbook.com has the Florida Gators as the 4-1 favorite to successfully defend their National Championship.  Men’s Division-1 College Basketball has not seen a team repeat as National Champions since Duke won back to back championships in ’91 & ‘92.  After losing three out of four late in the season, the Gators are full of momentum as they won their last four games by an average of 18 points.  Not surprisingly, right behind the Gators are the other three top seeds: Kansas 5-1, UNC 6-1, and Ohio State 7-1.  Many consider Kansas to be the hottest team in the country, having won 11 straight. With Kansas, it is hard to ignore all of the early exits from the “dance” in recent years.  With an impressive ACC Tournament, UNC ensured themselves the other top seed.  UNC has about as much talent as any other team in the tournament but with a team that’s best players are primarily freshman and sophomores, could youth be a concern.  Behind freshman sensation, Greg Oden, OSU will look to do what their football team failed to do just a few months earlier.  OSU seems to have peeked at the right time, as they currently have a 17 game winning streak.  Since the tournament field was expanded in 1985, there has never been an instance where all four #1 seeds advanced to the Final Four.  It is obvious that each of the top seeds have the talent to make it through to Atlanta.  But as everyone knows, when makes the NCAA Tournament so special are all of the spoilers and “Cinderella” stories that knock off the favorites on a daily basis.
